The Psychology Department was formed in 1910 when June E. Downey became the first professor of philosophy and psychology. Downey had published seven books and more than 70 articles before dying in October 1932. Dr. Lillian Portenier joined the Psychology Department in 1930 and investigated student mentality ratings. Ronald Leo Sprinkle was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, in 1930.
